Insurance & identification requirements

Insurance

  •  Insurance is included for 2 drivers aged between 25-75 with up to 1 x accident / 6 points* and 2 years driving experience. Drivers outside of these parameters may be possible with an additional premium, please ask prior to booking. Our insurers will not insure professional racers and entertainers, please ask if in any doubt.
  • The driver must have a valid driver's licence from UK, EU, USA, New Zealand, South Africa or Canada. Outside of these areas will need to be referred to the insurers.
  • We ask you to complete either our online check-in or our hire agreement prior to collection as it provides verification on your eligibility to drive with our insurance. This includes confirming you have had no accidents (fault or no fault, or provide information if you have). Where accidents have occurred, we are required to refer to the insurers who are usually very understanding! You are also asked to confirm any points, disabilities that affect driving and whether you've been refused insurance. 
  • All drivers MUST provide a valid driving licence on collection, 2 items of identification (details below) and a DVLA driver's check code.
  • The name and address MUST match on all documents and identification (if it doesn't read our advice below)
  • ​In the unlikely event of  mechanical breakdown, cover is included for your reassurance. Our vehicles are subject to regular servicing and safety checks by our in-house fully qualified mechanic.
  • We strongly recommend taking your own travel insurance to suit your requirements and your personal belongings as well as possible impact on your holiday. You may wish to consider taking out insurance for holiday cancellation protection, such as if you need to cancel through illness or redundancy for example. 

Please do ask us if you have any queries as it's best to check in advance of booking, in case an issue arises that can't be rectified. We're a friendly bunch and will do our best to help.

Identification

The following documentation is acceptable for proof of address alongside the drivers licence.
You must provide the following, as without it we will not be able to secure insurance for you to hire.
If you are unable to produce the required identification and documentation, please do not book as we will not be able to cover you with our insurance. You will be required to bring originals on the day. If you are 'paperless' please read our advice below on what to provide.

PLEASE PROVIDE 2 FORMS OF ID: (Name and address must match drivers licence)

- Either 2 primary forms of proof
- Or 1 x primary and 1 x secondary proof

PRIMARY form of proof: What is acceptable:-


• Electricity*
• Water*
• Gas*
• Broadband/Landline*
• Council tax
• TV licence*
• Bank Statement*
• Credit card bill / statement*
• Mortgage statement
• Polling card
• HMRC self-assessment / tax credit*


* Dates less than 90 days old

Secondary Proof of Address:
• Student loan
• Shotgun licence
• Payslip
• Mobile Phone Bills
• Pension letters
• Car Finance Statement
• Loan Statement
• Property deed

What is declined:-
  • Any document relating to insurance.
  • Any document that does not meet the above mentioned criteria


We ask you to sent copies of these items 2 weeks in advance so we can provide you with the reassurance and peace of mind that your insurance will be in place in good time for your hire. It provides us with enough time to iron out any issues that could arise (and these do arise, which is why we request prior to rental day!)

No utility bills in your name?

May we suggest the quickest and easiest route we know of is to ask the person who's name the water bill is in, to add you to the account, and ask for a statement to be sent. This should only take a few days, if you act straight away. Then after the hire, you can ask to be removed again. 

If you have no utilities in your name because you rent property and the bills are included within your rent, we can accept your rental agreement as confirmation of this however this would need to be referred to the underwriter in plenty of time. 

Name and / or address doesn't match with licence / identification 

Your driving licence and ID must be in the same name and with the same address. If it does not we can refer to the underwriters on a case by case basis and will be dependent upon what you are able to provide to support the request. 
In most instances, DVLA will update your driving licence to the correct details within 2-3 weeks, especially if you apply for any changes online.  
If you have moved house within 3 months we can refer your insurance application to the insurers with proof of address from your old house as well as proof of address from your new house, so we advise strongly not to update your licence via post (online is fine!) too close to the hire!!
If you have changed your name, we can refer your case to the insurers with proof of name change (ie marriage certificate).
Please do not risk sending your licence off to be updated with less than 14 days to go before collection as we cannot hire out our campervans without seeing your driving licence and no refunds will be issued. ​

                                             **** Paperless billing ****

No problem! Being paperless doesn't mean you can't show us the required identification if you follow these tips and our insurers are more than happy to accept these methods. Do note that these methods may take a phone call or two to your providers, so please do call them as soon as possible to avoid any issues. 'Being paperless' is not a reason to not be able to provide the required documentation and as with all hires, we will not be able to secure insurance for any guest that has not provided the required documents.

- An emailed utility statement from your supplier can be accepted. Call them and ask to send to you which is usually immediate, depending on your supplier. We suggest if you do this 2 weeks prior to collection date that will allow plenty of time for processing with the provider.
- Or, if you'd prefer, call up your provider in plenty of time, ask them to switch back on paper billing, check when the next statement is due, or ask for the previous one backdated and posted out. You can switch back to paperless the following month.
- Depending on the options via your providers website, you may be able to logon and download a statement. Remember this must show your name and address.
- 
In certain circumstances, we can also accept a screen print of an online bank account statement, which is subject to referral to the underwriter. You would then be required to show us the logged in screen on your smart phone.

​Safety deposit

Our safety deposit is £250 and we can either preauthorise this on your credit card or you can pay by BACS. If you pay by BACS the funds will need to be cleared prior to collection. It is fully returned with safe return of our campervan in the condition it was lent out to you. For your reassurance, we complete a vehicle condition report with you upon collection.

* Standard insurance cover is included for those with up to 1 fault / non-fault accident in the last 5 years and up to 2 x three point convictions. Outside of these stipulations, we refer to the underwriters for approval. An additional premium may be charged outside of the standard terms.
